How the diversity ratio works
This calculator finds what percentage of a total group a given category or represented group makes up — a general-purpose composition ratio commonly used in workforce representation reporting.
Enter the count for the group you're measuring and the total count of the whole population. The calculator returns the percentage that group represents.
This is a plain ratio calculation — what categories to track, and how to interpret the resulting numbers in context, are organizational and policy decisions this calculator does not make for you.
The formula
Ratio = Represented group count ÷ Total count × 100
Divide the count of the group you're measuring by the total population count, then multiply by 100.
Worked example
40 in the represented group, out of 160 total
40 ÷ 160 × 100 = 25%.

Can I use this for any category, not just demographic ones?
Yes — this is a general representation-ratio calculation. It works for any group-within-a-total comparison, such as role level, tenure band, or department, in addition to demographic reporting.
Does this compare against external benchmarks (e.g. labor market availability)?
No — this calculator only computes your internal ratio. Comparing that ratio against external labor-market or population benchmarks is a separate, more involved analysis.
How should I interpret a low ratio?
That depends entirely on context — the right benchmark to compare against (industry, geography, role type, pipeline) varies by what you're measuring and why. This tool provides the number, not the interpretation.
