How business days work
Business days counts weekdays — Monday through Friday — between a start and end date, inclusive of both. It is the number planners actually use for deadlines, SLAs and delivery estimates, as opposed to a raw calendar-day count.
Enter a start date and an end date. The calculator returns the weekday count, the total calendar days, and how many of those were weekend days.
This calculator counts weekdays only — it does not exclude public holidays, since a generic global holiday calendar would often be wrong for your specific country or organization. Adjust the result manually for holidays that fall in your range.
The formula
Business days = weekdays (Mon–Fri) from start to end, inclusive
Every calendar day in the inclusive range is checked; Saturdays and Sundays are excluded, and the remaining count is the business-day total.
Worked example
Monday to the following Friday (5 calendar days)
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday are all weekdays, so the range is 5 business days out of 5 calendar days.
Frequently asked questions
Does this exclude public holidays?
No. Holiday calendars vary by country, region and organization, so this calculator counts Monday–Friday only. Subtract any holidays that fall in your date range manually.
How is this different from the Date Difference Calculator?
Date Difference counts every calendar day. Business Days counts only weekdays — the number most operations and delivery planning actually uses.
Are the start and end dates both included?
Yes. Both the start date and end date count toward the total if they fall on a weekday, matching how most SLA and deadline calculations are done.
