Turnaround Time Calculator
Calculate the elapsed time between the start and completion of an operational task.
How turnaround time works
Turnaround time is the elapsed time between the start and completion of an operational task. It answers a simple question: how long did this take, from start to finish?
Enter the start date/time and the completion date/time. The calculator returns the total elapsed time in days, hours and minutes, plus the total in hours.
This calculator measures elapsed (calendar) time — the plain difference between the two timestamps. It does not skip nights, weekends, holidays or non-business hours.
The formula
Turnaround = Completion − Start
Subtract the start timestamp from the completion timestamp. The difference is the elapsed time, presented in days, hours and minutes and as a total number of hours.
Worked example
Started Monday 09:00, completed Wednesday 15:30
That is 2 days, 6 hours and 30 minutes, or 54.5 hours in total.
Frequently asked questions
Does this account for business hours?
No. This version calculates elapsed calendar time, so nights, weekends and holidays count. If you need SLA-style business-hours turnaround, that is a future enhancement.
Why do I also get total hours?
Total hours is the most useful number for comparing turnaround across tasks of different sizes and for building averages.
What if the completion time is before the start?
That is not a valid turnaround calculation. The calculator rejects completion before start — make sure both timestamps use the same clock and timezone.
